Popular surgeries for treating the problem of Cataract in eye patients

Cataract causing hindrance in vision is something we get to see in people in the 60+ age group. Cataract surgery in Mumbai is recommended by an eye specialist to remove the layer of cataract to offer a better and clear vision to the patient. There are various types of Cataract surgery and which one will be ideal for you will depend on several other factors like the condition of the eye on which the procedure will be done, the nature of the surgical equipment to be used as well as on the expertise of the eye surgeon. There are 3 types of surgery for Cataract.

Phacoemulsification: Popular in the name ofPhaco. It’s a ½ an hour process for the removal of the cataract and using minimal sedation. A small surgical incision is done near the edge of the eye cornea. It is done to create an opening through the eye membrane which is surrounding the lens. Now a small ultrasonic probe gets inserted to break the cloudy lens with sound waves. The use of an attachment is done to remove the broken lens. the intraocular lens implant is done after this using a hollowed-out tube.

Extracapsular cataract surgery: This process is useful for highly advanced cataracts with a dense layer. Here the incision will be a bit larger than the previous technique to remove the cataract in one piece. In this surgery also an artificial lens is inserted. Injection for numbing the area is given and involves more sutures for closing the bigger wounds. The recovery time is more here.

Intracapsular cataract surgery: This is a very less used technique but, in a few circumstances, it can be applied even today. Here the incision is even larger than the extracapsular surgery and here the entire lens along with surrounding capsule is removed. The intraocular lens here is placed before the iris.

Any type of surgery on eye be it Glaucoma surgery, Lasik surgery or even laser eye surgery in Mumbai, all are delicate surgery and to be done by experienced surgeons only. For best guidance and advice meet the experts of Doctor Eye Institute.
